Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the new term. Please find attached an overview of the learning planned for term 5 within our topic ‘Carnival of the Animals’.
Much of our topic work will be led by our geography and science topics relating to animals, where they live and lifecycles. To help bring our learning to life, this term we have organised a trip to visit Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm. We will be able to see all of the animals and we have also arranged a lifecycles workshop and animal food to feed the animals! We will send out details for how to pay for this and more information shortly. We can only take a limited number of additional adults with us but if you are available on the 27th May please let me know.
We will begin our animal learning with the book ‘What the ladybird heard’. As we go along the children’s interests may take us in new directions and we will look for opportunities to develop these interests and extend their learning. We have also got some caterpillars arriving so that we can watch and learn about the lifecycle of a caterpillar as it turns into a butterfly.
Children can bring a book from home in their book bag each day to look at or read independently in class. In Willow class, we would like children to read every night and you can record this in their reading log. For every week that your child reads 5 times they will receive a Sapphire gem. Year 1 children will get a spelling list each Monday and we will go through their spellings every Monday. Reception children will be getting some new ‘tricky words’ to learn as well as their phonics booklets to practise their phonics sounds. Please bring their book bag to school each day with the reading books so that we can read them during school time. Year 1 should have received a log in to Times Tables Rock Stars, a website to support learning their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
This term we have PE on a Wednesday and a Thursday, children should come to school in PE kit on both days. They can wear trainers or daps (preferably blue or black), a Tickenham PE top and blue or black.
We hope you are all staying safe and well. If you need any help or support at all, please do let me know. You can always contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact us.
With thanks for your continued support.
