It has been so lovely to welcome your children back to school after such an unsettled few months; there has been such a buzz in the class and they are loving being back together again!
This term, our topic is called ‘Can You Survive Without Hope?’ which links nicely to our first Christian Value of the year – hope! Within this topic, we are going to have a history focus where we are looking at a significant turning point in British history; we have chosen to study WWII which they are all very excited about! We have already got stuck in to our class book, Goodnight Mr Tom, which they are really enjoying.
In Science this term, we will be looking at evolution and inheritance where we will be researching Mary Anning, investigating fossils and learning how plants and animals adapt to suit their environment.
Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, it is looking unlikely that we will be able to plan any trips to accompany our learning this term but we’re keeping everything crossed that this may change as we progress into the year! Please do share anything that may link to our topic as we would all love to hear or see anything!
Our usual PE days are Wednesday and Thursday and at the moment we ask that the children come to school dressed in their PE kit to avoid having to change at school. We will be adding embroidered PE hoodies to our PE kit list which will be available to purchase from Monsoon shortly so please do order one of them if you would like your child to have one to wear during PE lessons / to future sporting events. We are lucky enough to continue to have 1 lesson a week lead by Future Stars which will be every Wednesday and in term 1, we will be replacing our Thursday PE session with forest school so please ensure your child comes to school in their ‘forest school’ clothes (anything that you’re happy to get a bit muddy!) every Thursday. We rely heavily on parental help and support for this provision to be able to take place so if there are any Thursday afternoons you can spare to accompany us at forest school, please do let me know as we are always so very grateful for your time, help and support.
Homework and spellings will be set on Mondays and homework will be marked as a class (if not online) the following Monday; spellings will be tested on Fridays.
Please encourage your child to read at home and ask them questions as they are doing so to help them ensure they’re understanding everything they’re reading. The children also have reading time in school so please remind your child to bring their reading book to school each day. We are currently having a class push on telling the time and times tables so I would also really appreciate any support you can offer at home to help your child with these.
As always, if there is ever anything that you would like to talk to me about, please do let me know; we are keeping our class emails (email@example.com) active whilst the restrictions are in place but I am always happy to arrange a meeting if required.
Please can I also take this opportunity to remind all children to wear their high vis jackets whilst walking to and from school; Mrs Lester is giving out house points to everyone who wears one each day!
I hope your child has enjoyed the start of term as much as I have and I’m looking forward to a fun-filled year together in Acacia Class!
With my best wishes,
Miss Katie Carter
