I hope that you all enjoyed a lovely Easter break; isn’t it great that we seem to be going in the right direction to get our ‘old normal’ back! I hope that by the end of this school year, we’re able to enjoy a few weeks of normality before the summer break.
This term, our topic is called ‘Was the Islamic Golden Age Really Golden?’. We are going to be looking at some stories from 1001 Arabian Nights as our English focus which we’ll also tie into our history, where we will be exploring the early Islamic civilization, and also our RE where we will be exploring Islam. This is going to be a fun topic full of colour, geometric art and maybe even a spot of cooking!
Our usual PE days are Tuesday and Thursday and at the moment we ask that the children come to school dressed in their PE kit (Tickenham t-shirt, black or navy shorts, joggers, skort or leggings and preferably blue/black trainers and their Tickenham hoody) to avoid having to change at school. The embroidered Tickenham hoodies are available to purchase from Monsoon so please do order one if you would like your child to be able to wear one on PE days. 1 lesson a week will be lead by Future Stars which will be every Tuesday.
Homework and spellings will be recommencing this term and they will be set on Mondays and homework will be marked as a class (if not online) the following Monday; spellings will be tested on Fridays. Please do encourage your child to use Spellingframe as much as they can as it is an excellent way to consolidate spellings as it teaches them not only the spelling, but also the meaning and how to use it in a sentence. They are able to recap any rules that they are unsure of from Year 1 upwards.
Please encourage your child to read at home and ask them questions as they are doing so to help them ensure they’re understanding everything they’re reading. The children have good fluency when reading their books but we are keen to ensure that their understanding and inference skills match their fluency. The children also have reading time in school so please remind your child to bring their reading book to school each day. We are currently having a class push on telling the time and spelling high frequency words correctly so I would also really appreciate any support you can offer at home to help your child with these.
Mrs Bougourd, who is the Oak Class teacher on Thursdays and Fridays, will be teaching Acacia every Tuesday from 11am-2pm whilst I have my PPA. This is replacing Mrs Curme who used to teach Acacia on a Thursday afternoon.
The summer term is always a favourite filled with so much fun, sunshine, laughter and happiness and this year will be no different! I can’t believe we’re already getting ready to start our last term as Acacia Class 2020-2021; we are going to have the best 12 weeks making and soaking up all the memories!
As always, if there is ever anything that you would like to talk to me about, please do let me know; we are keeping our class emails (firstname.lastname@example.org) active whilst the restrictions are in place but I am always happy to arrange a meeting if required.
With my best wishes
Miss Katie Carter
