Tickenham Church of England Primary School

We are very proud of our four-legged friend, Gatsby. Gatsby is a school dog, who joined us in November 2016 as a puppy. He spends every day in school and goes home with Mr Merriam, Head of School. The TSA (Tickenham School Association) funded this venture with a view of developing pupils' respect, responsibility and kindness.

He has settled in better than we could have ever imagined and is now very much a part of our school community. Pupils have developed their Christian Values through looking after Gatsby and have played a vital role in training him. Children applied to be 'Puppy Trainers' and spent months working on developing him socially.

His first few weeks brought the school a great deal of publicity: BBC Points West visited and interviewed Mr Merriam and pupils, BBC Radio Bristol broadcast live from school and he visited the BBC Points West studio for a live broadcast. Following this success, Alex Lovell, BBC Points West, visited school for a Valentines Day special centred around Gatbsy.
